Environmental Data
Today's Outlook:
Solar X-rays:

Geomagnetic Field:

Solar X-rays: X-rays that are emitted from the sun. The amount
of x-rays that leave the sun and enter the earth's atmosphere can
fluctuate and change, and this meter detects that and reports it in
understandable terms.
Geomagnetic Field: The magnetic field observed in and around
the earth.
The intensity of the magnetic field at the earth's surface is
approximately 0.32 gauss at the equator and 0.62 gauss at the north
pole. This field can be disrupted by geomagnetic storms which are
caused by changes in the solar wind coming from the sun.
Why does these environmental factors matter? There
are theories that these naturally occurring environmental variables
cause an increase in paranormal activity when they are outside the
"normal" levels of activity. It is important to take
everything into account that may help explain paranormal
phenomena. The information below explains what the status
monitors show and what the various readings mean. If you have
more information about this monitor, or if you have questions
regarding the relationship between these environmental
variables and paranormal activity, please feel free to e-mail me
at noahl@paranormalmilwaukee.com.
About the Solar X-ray status monitor: The X-ray Solar
status monitor downloads data periodically from the NOAA Space
Environment Center FTP server. The previous 24 hours
of 5 minute Long-wavelength X-ray
data from each satellite (GOES 8 and GOES 10) is analyzed, and an
appropriate level of activity for the past 24 hours is assigned as follows:
 |
Normal: Solar X-ray flux is quiet (< 1.00e-6 W/m^2)
|
 |
Active: Solar X-ray flux is active (= 1.00e-6 W/m^2) |
 |
M Class Flare: An M Class flare has occurred (X-ray flux = 1.00e-5 W/m^2) |
 |
X
Class Flare: An X Class flare has occurred (X-ray flux = 1.00e-4 W/m^2) |
 |
Mega Flare: An unprecedented X-ray event has occurred (X-ray flux = 1.00e-3 W/m^2)
The designation "Mega Flare" was chosen by Kevin Loch when the status monitor was created on March 4, 1999. There is no "official" designation for flares in this range.

About the Geomagnetic Field status monitor: The Geomagnetic
Field status monitor downloads data periodically from the NOAA Space
Environment Center FTP server. The previous 24 hours of 3

Index data is analyzed and an appropriate level of activity for
the past 24 hours is assigned as follows:

Why are the moon phases and other weather
variables important? There is data that suggests that during certain
moonphases, and weather conditions, there is an increase in paranormal
activity. Some of the possible explainations are that, during a
thunderstorm for instance, there are more charged particles in the air and
so the paranormal entity has an energy source to draw from in order to
manifest activity. There is also evidence that the full moon, and
new moon, are associated with an increase in paranormal phenomena.
The theories behind why this occurs are varied, and range from a higher
amount of positive ions in the air, to an increased gravitational
pull. Nothing has been proven but there is plenty of evidence that
shows there is increased paranormal activity when the moon is full.
